Should You Buy The Nokia N95 8gb?
The Nokia N95 8GB Mobile Phone is unlike many of the previous Nokia mobile phones to date, for a start it’s a smart phone with some pretty exciting features. It is one of the most technologically advanced phones that you can buy at the moment, and is in direct competition with the Apple iPhone.
Although some people may not think that this phone looks as special as the iPhone it is actually technologically superior. There’s no denying that the Nokia N95 black looks stunning!
This Nokia phone is capable of using 3G networks, which means you can use video calling, it also has HDSPA for blisteringly quick internet!
This is a very clever phone, it is a slider phone however unlike conventional slider phones the screen can slide up or down. Slide it up and you are presented with the standard number keypad, but slide it down and you get multimedia controls. Sliding it down also turns the screen into landscape mode which is ideal for watching movies or playing games. Even when this phone is shut you can still control it using the shortcut keys.
This handset weighs a mere 120g which considering all of the advanced technology is amazing!
There are two different versions of the N95, the standard Silver Version and the Black 8gb Version. The Standard version comes with 160MB of internal storage, you can also add to the memory of the phone by installing MicroSD (or TransFlash) cards, the phone will support up to a 2GB Card, however this phone does not support MicroSDHC cards (any card above 2GB), this comes with a 128MB card in the box.
The Nokia N95 8GB ships with 100M of internal memory and 8GB of internal flash memory which can be used to store multimedia content.
This phone also has a built in GPS feature, maps for this are available for over 100 countries. The GPS is a pleasure to use thanks to the large, bright screen. As you would expect from such a well equipped phone this Nokia phone does support Bluetooth.
Nokia state that the battery standby time is 220 hours, and 6.5hours of talk time. However many users are finding that they are disappointed with the battery life in their phones, most phones last for two days without a charge under standard use, however a handful seem to only last a couple of hours.
Although the build quality of Nokia phones is normally second to none, some people have questioned the quality of this phone suggesting that it will break very easily. Many people’s n95 8GB has broken because they dropped it.
There are lots of exciting hidden features inside this phone just waiting to be discovered. For example there is an accelerometer which can be used to control applications in a similar way to the Wii games console. This needs to be activated, but that’s fairly easy to do all you need to do is download a plug-in.
The phone can also be connected to a TV for game play or watching your videos. Although there are plenty of freeware applications out there it is very difficult to install them unless you are a developer. In order to use freeware applications on your phone you need a certificate from Symbian, which is near impossible to obtain at the moment!
The good:
The MP3 player is great, it has a loudspeaker function which is great
Camera is good for a phone
Loads of storage
Fast internet access
Loads of freeware applications available (but see below)
The bad:
Very easy to break when dropping
Poor battery life
