Should You Buy The Apple iPhone?

The Apple iPhone Mobile Phone is one of the most long awaited phones which has just hit the market. However it has left many people feeling disappointed. Some people have suggested that the iPhone mobile phone doesn’t do the basic phone functions very well at all.

The Apple iPhone is a mobile with a built in iPod media player. It is small and lightweight phone weighing in at only 135g. Although this is slightly heavier than the Nokia N95 you shouldn’t notice the difference.

The phones main selling features are the media player, and the large colour touch screen which can be used to control the device. The iPhone runs on a brand new operating system which is based on Mac OS X, it’s very easy to control thanks to the large touch screen. However it is very easy to get fingerprints on the screen, which can be irritating.

There are two different versions of the iPhone available a 8GB and 16GB version. One important point to mention is that the battery is inside the phone and cannot be replaced. Sending it back to apple will end up costing you £65 for a new battery, the same as an iPod. You might think that you’ve never changed the battery on your current phone, however surely it’s nice to have the option.

Apple claim the battery will last for around 16 hours of music playback, and will last for around 5 hours of talk

You will instantly be able to use the media player if you are at all used to an iPod, it is controlled using touch screen controls which make it easy for you to select and listen to music. You can select music by looking at album covers, or search for different songs.

There is of course a built in camera which allows the user to take photos and also film videos. You can also download your favourite TV shows and movies onto the device so you can watch while you’re out and about.

If you’ve ever browsed the internet on a phone before then you might be disappointed, however thanks to the safari internet browser you can see the websites as they were intended. You can connect to the internet using either your wireless network, or EDGE.

The phone will automatically switch between landscape and portrait views when you turn the phone around, which is a great little feature!

There are plenty of iPhone Downloads and applications available for this phone, however unless you get your phone unlocked you will only be able to install genuine apple applications.

The UK apple iPhone is currently only available on the O2 network where you will have to sign up for 18 months before they will let you have one.

Poor camera – It’s only 2 mega pixels which although isn’t that bad you would expect more from such a new phone
Poor battery life
Available only on the O2 network at the moment but there are ways to unlock it.
